TURIN 20 – 23 July 2022

A welcome from Anna Roscio

A welcome from Anna Roscio, team manager of the Women’s Amateur National Team that will participate in the Ladies Italian Open, with a past in the World University Championship Golf, gives the welcome to all the athletes that will be in Turin in July.

World University Championship Golf: what is your personal memory?

I was part of the Women’s Amateur National Team for ten years and I was lucky enough to participate in several editions of the World University Championship Golf. The biggest thrill was just at the last edition here in Turin, in 2006, as part of the road map to Winter Universiade 2007, where I played at my club Golf Torino in Fiano Torinese. I still remember the opening ceremony in Via Po, when I had the opportunity to do the welcome speech. I am very happy that my city is once again hosting such an important event, no longer at Torino Golf Club, but at Royal Park I Roveri, which is an equally wonderful course. I am sure that all the athletes will be happy to get to know our city and to be able to compete at such a prestigious sporting event.

What is the connection between women, young people and the game of golf?

It is a sport more and more for young people, and fortunately people are noticing: just look at the numbers. The old stereotype of the golfer being older is outdated. In Piedmont then, gender parity also falls on the green since women golfers are 50 percent of the total.

The game of golf, especially in the aftermath of the pandemic, has been reevaluated because it is an outdoor sport, a healthy, peaceful and non-threatening environment even for children and family who can spend time together.

What can you wish for young college students approaching the world of golf?

I hope that more and more young people will be passionate about the sport. It is a beautiful environment that gives great satisfaction, it opens so many doors not only from the sporting point of view, because it helps people to get to know each other and to establish professional and working ties.
